Well I have done a variety of things and not all related to my objectives around fundraising, but I guess that was to be expected. One thing I have been trying to do is build some partnerships for my organisation. We don't have much resource so I figured working with other organisations would be a bonus.
Good news is that I have found and developed a relationship with an organisation that supports disabled children. I've seen many disabled children over the past few months and the sad thing is that many of them are very neglected. Either the family is too poor to pay for any rehabilitation or medical help (something I find sad is many disabilities are caused by preventable diseases or complications in childbirth) or they see the child as a curse on the family and inflict the neglect by keeping them hidden away. Many fathers even leave their family if the wife gives birth to a disabled child and go and find another wife, leaving child and mum destitute.
The partnership I'm developing will see our community members undergo some training and be able to access funds (via our proposed partner) to support these children. And also work with the families to make sure they get support and information. It won't really come to fruition until January at the earliest when I would have left but at least I've started the ball rolling. It feels like something that is sustainable and I'm pleased.
