Life of Bryan (and Ezra aka Katongole) part 2

A quick update on the two little boys we met at Mulago hospital a couple of months ago. We heard that Katongole, the little fella who was abandoned at the hospital by his folks, had been moved to a Baby's home after the social workers failed to make contact with his parents. Friday was bank holiday here in Uganda to celebrate Independence day so we took the opportunity to go and visit him at Sanyu Babys home here in Uganda.

Sanyu looks after about 50 babies straight from new born through to 3 years old before they move to orphanages. On arrival we asked after the boy we knew as Katongole but none of the staff there had heard of that name. We were sure he was there so walked around trying to recognise the little fella. We were directed to a little chubby fella and sure enough it was Kat although the staff had renamed him Ezra on account of him being a Muslim baby.

He was almost unrecognisable from the waif we met at Mulago and if the size of his belly was anything to go by he was certainly enjoying his food again. Gone were the sores and flaky skin that he had back at the hospital although there were a few scars as evidence of what he had been through. We spent a good hour with him trying to get him walking as that is the next step now that he is 18 months old. We will try and head back before we leave Uganda to catch-up on him again. Here are some photos.

Things have also improved for little Bryan. He left hospital after starting his AV drugs for his HIV and is currently living with his maternal grandmother who by all accounts seems besotted with him. We got a quite snap of them together before he was discharged.
