Madagascar - Road Trip part Deux

As we headed north from the Cape the landscape changed dramatically. We drove through countless barren landscapes, dry riverbeds and miles and miles of scrubland puntuated by the famous baobab trees.

At long last we reached tarmac again and headed to Isalo National Park. Here a sandstone monolith formed thousand of years ago protrudes from the earth to create haunting landscape and a playground for European tourists. We did a full days hike through cliff top views and lush tropical gorges. Our guide here was fantastic, great english and knowledge but the best bit was when he jumped into the bush to grab a rapidly moving snake as we had said we hoped to see one.

After Isalo we headed back to Finar, said goodbye to our car, driver and guide and booked ourselves to go to the rainforest, Ranomafana National Park.

Except I got malaria and had to stay in bed for three days. Luckily we had finished the road-trip so I was able to rest up in a cosy family hotel whilst being looked after by Jo and our great host Fidy and his family. We decided to cancel our trip to Ranomafana and headed instead back to Tana for the second part of our trip in the North-east.
